Academic Origins
Ted was not the type of person who was born into wealth. Many years before his rise to fame and fortune, Ted was a young boy living in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was there that his father, Ned, held an illustrious position at the Museum of Northern Arizona as its director. Despite the honor that this position held, it was not the best paying one. The Dansons were consequently a humble and modest family.

It was in a highly open interview with AARP The Magazine in 2017 that Ted described how he was raised and how threadbare his life was then. “An unspoken message I got it as a child was that we had nothing. We didn’t have TVs to be honest. I looked like a ragamuffin. My clothes were all hand-me-downs. My dad worked so hard, and there was enough money for the necessities, but getting more and more money was never a goal.”
